  As long as they aren't yapping the location to their killers, you really only need to kill one round of people. The second round of killings was already overkill.

    The first round of killings were probably done by people who had a general idea of where the burial took place, since the slaves probably couldn’t be unsupervised long. The next round could take place further away, since the soldier could probably be more relied on to follow orders and return to a known location when they had completed their task.
