Anyone else here managing his "dot files" with an Ansible playbook? In my environments files like .bashrc only contain a few statements that source other scripts where I inject / template my actual configuration.
- twp 3y agoI previously used Puppet, but you usually need root access on the machine to install Ansible or Puppet itself as they have a large number of dependencies and often add extra system services or user accounts. This is very heavy tool to install if you only need to update a few files in your home directory and install a couple of packages with sudo. For a longer answer, see https://www.chezmoi.io/user-guide/frequently-asked-questions/design/#why-not-use-ansiblechefpuppetsalt-or-similar-to-manage-my-dotfiles-instead https://www.chezmoi.io/user-guide/frequently-asked-questions....

- regularfry 3y agoI do this. Bashrc, SSH key generation and distribution, a few development niceties and networking tweaks, all kept in sync with a Makefile and some ansible.
