How does one even measure carbon footprint accurately?
If I take the bus, am I responsible for 1/(city population) of the public transit system emissions or zero since the bus would still do the same trip if I hadn't taken it?
If I rent and my apartment is badly insulated (like in the article) are the emissions on me or on my landlord (since they would have been emitted whether or not I was there).
Your diet can produce emissions in a very wide range depending on its composition, how it was produced, wrapped, transported, etc. This is impossible to measure and online calculators won't do it.
Depending on how I measure it, I'm pretty sure I could get 0 tons in one case, as well 20 tons in another.
I do everything I can to reduce my ecological footprint. But as highlighted in the article, there's only so much we can do without changing the system, and that'll never be under my control.
To be honest, I'm eagerly awaiting the (hopefully gradual) collapse so we can build something new, a society based on resilience, minimalism and community instead of growth, consumption and individualism.
