Needing more carbon capture infrastructure and renewable energy sources is a problem completely independent of synthetic fuel production. If you're charging electric vehicles, you still need to put energy into them, and that energy still needs to be clean if not to worsen climate change, and we have already dumped an incredible amount of CO2 into the atmosphere, and we will dump a lot more as many industrial processes can not be made carbon free.
Synthetic fuels let you take advantage of the extremely high energy density of combustion fuels, can be utilized with existing infrastructure, and can be a viable use for captured carbon that can bootstrap the construction of carbon capture infrastructure. Yeah, we shouldn't hold back electrification specifically to use synthetic fuels, but we're decades away from electrifying things like air travel and we can't afford to wait that long to reduce our emissions.
