My late aunt bought a second-generation, 300Mhz G3-based tangerine iMac running 8.6 to replace her [very] aged IIvx (with the 32Mhz 68030 CPU (upgraded just the year before from 5MB to 9MB RAM))
Jumping from System 7.1 to System 8 was a monumental game changer for her - productivity on writing and personal projects went through the roof!
And it still supported all the 'legacy' apps she'd been running for years!
It was the first Mac I ever brought online (go go gadget Netscape 2.0! ... with CompuServe (later, a local dial-up ISP)!
She ran it right up until her untimely demise in 2008 :( ... or about a decade of use out of the machine prior to her departure from this mortal realm
I used it another ~2 years off-and-on until it became untenable to do so (online)
