Nintendo's stance is that modifying the firmware and dumping keys from the Switch is in violation of the DMCA. Downloading keys from the internet is a violation of Nintendo's copyright. Dumping games? Violation of the license. Their stance is: if you're a US citizen, there is no legal way to use an emulator for a modern system to play retail games.
Take that as you will.
- ranger_danger 3y agoTheir stance doesn't 100% align with what's actually legal in the US. Dumping your own games/bios/firmware and then playing them on an emulator is perfectly legal for example.
- realusername 3y agoIf you are in the EU, in most countries there are interoperability exceptions for this purpose which apply here since you are using the games in another system.
