Show HN: Skypulse – a dashboard to watch the Bluesky firehose
- davidbarker 3y agoI've been interested in playing with the Bluesky/AT Protocol API, and I found out they allow you to subscribe to the Bluesky firehose via web sockets. I spent the last couple of days figuring the API out and put together this dashboard to allow people to see what's going on inside Bluesky. By default, the events processing is set to 25% of all events. I found that when Bluesky is busy, the number of calls I have to make to get the details about the events causes you to get disconnected from the API for a short while. But it's fun to watch for a little bit! There are still plenty of things I want to add to it. I love having this level of access to the data. I wish Twitter was still the same. (Interestingly, blocks on Bluesky are public. I'm still debating whether to include those in a column.)
- avinassh 3y agoThe app is fun! What is the easiest way to get started with the AT proto? Can you recommend tutorials or developer docs?
- capableweb 3y agoThere isn't really any tutorials at the moment, https://atproto.com/guides/overview https://atproto.com/guides/overview is the best docs at the moment as far as I can tell.
- cyclecount 3y agoIt's kind of funny that Jack Dorsey sold Twitter to someone who he probably knew might tank the site, only to turn around and rebuild the same thing :)
- tough 3y agoHe also funding nostr, so not only one same thing but also twice, both decentralised so elon can't buy them again
- capableweb 3y agoI guess you can say that the ideas are similar if not identical, with some vital differences: portability of usernames (domains as usernames), federated servers, self-managed algorithms for feeds and based on a protocol (The AT Protocol)
