Nordstrom Is Closing San Francisco Stores as Retail Pain Grows

When the Apple Store moved up to Union Square it seemed to shift foot traffic patterns so that there wasn't any real reason to cross Market Street to go into the Westfield unless there was something specific you wanted. When most of the restaurants on the upper floor closed then it gave even less of a reason to go there. Last time I passed through the Westfield at the very beginning of 2020 the entire upper floor was practically empty. LA had a similar problem with the Westside Pavilion, which has been closed pending redevelopment for years. The trigger for that closure was Nordstrom moving to the Century City mall. Will be interesting to see if the Westfield can pull itself out of the spiral its in.
