If this is a true threat, I don't imagine us retaining a capitalist society for very long. AI is basically the dream for socialism, and the antithesis for capitalism (except for the capitalists that win the arms race).
In any case, I've never been one to say that technology enhancements for humanity is a bad thing. It's only the powers that be that can wield it for bad.
- User23 3y agoHow do you figure? To me it looks like AI, especially Boston Dynamics style killbots, are the capitalist autocrat's wet dream.
- monsieurgaufre 3y agoIf AI able to do every job, do you really think that people will just starve to death because capitalism-the-ideology? Also, there's more of "us" ("workers" which, btw, are knowledgeable about the infrastructure) than billionaires.
- User23 3y agoYes hence my going straight to kill-bots. You won't starve to death, you'll get shot by a kill-bot for breaking some law on the books that permits it, like messing with the capitalist autocrat's stuff. I'm not saying it's a guaranteed win, I'm saying I really don't see how AI is anything other than a net win for an autocrat with plenty of capital.
- monsieurgaufre 3y agoAh, I misunderstood your point. You're right that this is a possible avenue. I just hope you're wrong. Or we may have some kind of butlerian jihad on the table in the future.
- weatherlite 3y agoSounds like something that can happen in the 3d world or China, not the West. If it were that easy people like Jeff Bezos would have a fleet of F-15s and nuclear missiles.
- Jeff_Brown 3y agoIt's a race between unemployment and the UBI. A UBI of 1000 USD per month would cost the US around 20% of GDP even if nobody stopped working, so it's not feasible yet, but it could be within our lifetimes.
