Max Tegmark: The 'Don't Look Up' Thinking That Could Doom Us with AI
- calf 4y agoA tangent to the essay but I also really dislike the new term "alignment" and how it is used uncritically. Maybe I misunderstand the concept, but to me it is subtly oppressive and possessive. Does one characterize their children or parents as being "aligned" or "unaligned"? Were the Non-Aligned Nations in the scifi show Babylon 5 an existential threat? Or was non-alignment the highest ideal of political autonomy? Alignment sounds like something a bad school principal or Nurse Ratched would say.
