I hope the market share stays.
It's the only browser which isn't a corporate puppet, respects the user's requests and has a truly open development model.
It's the only real browser if you ask me.
- mike-cardwell 15y agoGive an Ad company a large enough browser share and eventually it will use that power for its own commercial interests, even if conflicts with what is good for the web. We're better off with Mozilla. However, I'm glad for Chrome as I think it's motivating Mozilla to build a better browser.
- kijin 15y ago> I'm glad for Chrome as I think it's motivating Mozilla to build a better browser. So, Chrome is to Firefox what Firefox was to Internet Explorer?
- lmm 15y agoIf you look at their financial statements firefox is pretty much a google puppet. Try konqueror for something more like what you're describing.
- bwarp 15y agoThat is correct but they would survive without them. A lot of people will jump to help if they fall, myself included.
- azakai 15y ago> If you look at their financial statements firefox is pretty much a google puppet. Firefox does get most of its funding from Google currently, but there are alternatives. I'm pretty sure Microsoft would also be happy to fund Firefox in return for putting Bing by default there. > Try konqueror for something more like what you're describing. onqueror uses WebKit, and Google is the main contributor to WebKit, so you aren't getting away from Google that way.
- kijin 15y agoYep, that's why I stick with Firefox too. Lately, Chrome has begun to ask me to "log in to Chrome". What? No thanks, I don't trust Google never to associate my browsing habits with my Google account. They have too many incentives to go evil. If RMS can survive on a 9" netbook for the sake of his principles, a lot of us can survive on Firefox. Besides, it's not as terrible as Chrome & Safari aficionados will have you believe. There is definitely room for improvement, but none of those are deal breakers for me personally.
- lelele 15y agoYep. Even if Firefox is a crash party, I stick with it.
- pimeys 15y agoIt's also my reason to use Firefox. If there's an truly open software, I will use it. I don't trust corporations, who are storing our data and life for their own purposes.
