I don’t know if the legislation here is misguided or not, but I do find it fascinating the number of users who, whenever a thread focused on the potential dangers of pornography (or violent media content) pops up, insist that it’s completely harmless and there is no way it could have an affect on people’s behaviors or personalities. Advertising is close to a $1T industry. Many people here work for some of the most powerful corporations in the world, whose empires are built on advertising. The content we see and hear affects us. I think we would be wise to treat all kinds of media consumption, particularly novel forms such as the unlimited access to limitless amounts of porn at the touch of a button which has only been widely available 20 years at best, with some hesitancy and skepticism before we declare it as perfectly harmless.
