Hell, at one point I worked for IBM and even I couldn't get access to any decent entry-level resources (let alone beyond!).
- MichaelZuo 4y agoThat's probably the reason why the overwhelmingly majority of central banks worldwide stick with IBM mainframes. It's nearly impossible to hack, or even access, anonymously even when connected to the internet. And even then only a small pool of select people would know how to do anything meaningful with that access.
- chasil 4y agoA little larger pool than you might think. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ES_EVM https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ES_EVM I wonder if the Hercules emulator runs their custom OS/360.
- MichaelZuo 4y agoKey words "generally compatible". Which even then I doubt, since I'm fairly certain the Soviet copies didn't support all the features and functionality supported by the most advanced System 370 variants, let alone System 390 or later.
- chasil 4y agoThe wiki implies that these models were directly compatible: 1010, 1020, 1030, 1040, and 1050, which were produced between 1969-78. There were many later models, but compatibility isn't mentioned.
- MichaelZuo 4y agoOkay, but how is that relevant? No bank is running anything older then a System 390.
