Ask HN: Solopreneur Ideas for DevOps Engineer?
I have knowledge on kubernetes, prometheus, terraform, AWS, CI/CD. The basic infrastructure stack and I want to build a soloprenuer product, but i cannot seem to come up with one
For people in this field, what are some products that you would like to see?
- dylanhassinger 3y agointro to each of these. maybe check out AWS for Non-engineers
- samsquire 3y agoBuild a infrastructural Val Town or Scrapscript hobbyist side project hosting. For ideas, I have a repository called startups. I also journal computer software ideas everyday of things I want.
- surprisetalk 3y agoAuthor of scrapscript here. We probably won't be production-ready for a while :) but let me know if there are any particular APIs or use-cases I should prioritize
- samsquire 3y agoI want a distributed computing pseudo content addressed speadsheet where each cell is a process, thread, function, server, program, user, avatar or API. I can type "=" for inserting a formula into a cell like Excel then type a repl.it template and bring up a server, or a template environment with everything preconfigured. I want to depend on other people's solutions to problems. We are all independently running agents. Perhaps it could be a chat room similar to a MUD where each person runs servers and runs programs that depend on eachother. A mesh of computation and storage. Perhaps there should be some central hub which tracks the state of different services and workflows, similar to Temporal.io. In 2013 I wrote this: https://github.com/samsquire/ideas#80-playhouse-repeatable-prototyping https://github.com/samsquire/ideas#80-playhouse-repeatable-p... about what can now be described as similar to repl.it I also wrote about conversational development at https://github.com/samsquire/ideas2#35-conversational-development https://github.com/samsquire/ideas2#35-conversational-develo... What I want is some way of collecting payments easily, so that my code can be montetized. Don't pay anything until you make money.
- surprisetalk 3y agoThat is very similar to a few things I'm already planning to build, but I'll need to process some of the incredible ideas you've got here. I might send you an email later this month with some questions :)
- samsquire 3y agoI've been reading your blog (https://taylor.town/ https://taylor.town/) and I think ScrapScript is awesome. Let's engage early and often. (I am looking forward to your email.) I hope we can build and inspire people to create some futuristic software. There's Conflict-free replicated data types, content addressable, Val Town, Nostr, scuttlebut, distributed computing, Node Package Manager, merkle trees, Rubygems, Git, ActivityPub, decentralized software, NixOS, repl.it, unison to draw inspiration from. https://dfinity.org/ https://dfinity.org/ (internet computer) https://nostr.com/ https://nostr.com/
- chigwe01 3y agoThat list is awesome. It has given me some ideas.
- surprisetalk 3y agoWhoa, I didn't know which list you were talking about, but it looks like he has this description in his bio: > If you like my thoughts, check out my Github pages for ideas https://github.com/samsquire/ideas https://github.com/samsquire/ideas https://github.com/samsquire/ideas2 https://github.com/samsquire/ideas2 https://github.com/samsquire/ideas3 https://github.com/samsquire/ideas3 https://github.com/samsquire/ideas4 https://github.com/samsquire/ideas4 (incomplete) HTTPS://GitHub.com/samsquire/startups If you want to talk about ideas, send me a message.
- surprisetalk 3y agoI'd suggest making a minimalist documentation site for all the big DevOps systems (e.g. AWS, k8, MySQL, etc). Provide explanations, diagrams, tips, clear configuration settings, and config calculators for free. Sell DevOps configuration "snippets" like TailwindUI does with components. Email me at hello@taylor.town if you want some more guidance on design and implementation.
