You have to wonder if these sort of observations were incorporated into GPT-4. It seems like such an obvious quick win to make future iterations of GPT to have some kind of hidden "think out loud" thing going on behind the scenes. This of course assumes no progress is made in NN architecture in the mean time which allows it to have inner monologue in a more "native" way.
