I would not equate the two. Salon and Huffpo were just clickbait farms, almost from Day 1. They had some interesting pieces from time to time, but nothing I ever thought of as particularly unique. Vice produced (and still does some times) some incredible pieces because they were able to get access to people who were otherwise inaccessible… or it required a level or risk that is simply unacceptable. I just came back to this thread because there’s an interview that just got posted a few hours ago with Maria Lvova-Belova IN Russia and it’s wild.
