It's the government subsidies that make it shitty, because they're not merit based, they're based on selection criteria that align with whatever the government wants to push. Canadians could make way better shows with less government intervention. As I said in another comment, the same is true for all of our industries. Instead of making stuff people want, everyone optimizes for getting government funding.
