Sure, his position is reasonably unique, and he’s potentially had a broad overview of lots of things going on at Google and the industry in general, but is your claim that he is good at pointing out dangers because he hears lots of gossip, or is it that being involved in deep learning for a long time makes him good at figuring out those things. I definitely don’t buy the latter. What, precisely, is the reason you think Hinton would be good at pointing out dangers? Maybe you just mean that journalists will be happy to interview him rather than that he is likely to be right? Certainly that does give one an advantage in pointing things out.
