Ask HN: Did you start your programming career with functional programming?

How did the experience turn out for you? How was the shift to imperative languages like e.g. writing loops instead of recursion, mutation of variables instead of immutability, etc. How do you program now? Do you think it would have been better if you learned imperative first?
