Not only that, but its control extends beyond the country's borders too; the government can seize, freeze or otherwise access the accounts of Americans (and non-Americans) in almost any bank across the globe. The only bank accounts that it can't do this to would be under the control of an even more repressive government (Russia, China, Iran). Most of this information is for sale anyway.
