The Path to Abundant Air Travel
- PaulHoule 4y agoOne of the worst things, that this article doesn't talk about, is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scope_clause https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scope_clause which is a disaster for small cities which are being served by 50-seat and smaller airplanes that are uncomfortable, uneconomical and not even being manufactured anymore. Manufacturers would love to replace these with somewhat larger (say 70-seat) planes that have better economics and (really!) feel bigger inside than the 737 like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embraer_E-Jet_family https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embraer_E-Jet_family https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embraer_E-Jet_E2_family https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embraer_E-Jet_E2_family but pilot's unions are afraid that they'd be paid less to fly smaller planes if the US airline industry. The economics of this kind of plane are so much better than https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embraer_ERJ_family https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embraer_ERJ_family that airlines would have no problems filling the seats at small airports (see "Southwest Effect".)
