Ask HN: What supplements or drugs you guys take to increase sex drive?
As per the title I'd love to know your stack for the purpose of increasing libido and sex drive.
Have been struggling for quite some time and in retrospect ever since I became sexually active as I was never able to get aroused around "normal girls", but now not even extremely attractive girls stimulate my libido and this is true for porn visuals as well as in person meetings with escort models and also the rare "organic" conquests at the club.
Have been self-injecting Testosterone (Testoviron Depot IM) and the peptide PT141 sub-cutaneous, both for 4 weeks now and hardly seen any improvement. Can't get my hands on Adderall via legit ways but will try soon to get it some from a source.
Some people swear by D3 agonists such as Cabergoline and Bromocrotipine , tried that as well but for about 10 days without any significant improvement and then I stopped because I am scared by the cardiotoxicity of Cabergoline especially.
Will try some MDMA and GHB during the summer as I continue the self-administration of Testoviron
Am I missing any substance? Lyrica maybe? Some people swear by that too
- gregjor 4y agoSee a doctor. Stop trying to treat yourself with random internet advice.
- JumpinJack_Cash 4y agoDoctors don't give a damn about such problems, they think they are first world problems and re-direct you to a shrink. Also I will go to my grave thinking that male doctors are happy that a guy has probelms with libido, especially if they have daughters. Female doctors don't want to "unleash more toxic masculinity in the world" so they'll also ignore the problem. The gymbros and the biohacking bros might not have an academic education, but at least they have some sense of comradery and interest in solving the problem because chances are they are trying to do the same thing (even in reverse for example there are a lot of biohackers who want to lower their libido so they are genuinely interested in the mechanism in order to be in control of their own libido and kick it up a notch or tone it down at will)
- gregjor 4y agoNot my experience with doctors. Maybe look for a helpful qualified doctor and let go of the stereotypes and assumptions.
- throwawaysalome 4y agoSounds like a textbook transition to gaiety. Don't fight it with substances.
- JumpinJack_Cash 4y agoWith all due respect , and I mean it. Ewww
- throwawaysalome 4y agoI'm as homophobic as the next backed-up, jizz-addled American. What I don't do is couch my squeamishness with a bullshit "due respect" clause.
- JumpinJack_Cash 4y agodude if you are disgusted by the male body that is not homophobia. Homophobia is actually engaging in the process of making life harder for homosexuals via discrimination and attacks both in the public square and with laws I could never do what bodybuilders do and look themselves in the mirror for hours because I’d be bored and disgusted even if I had a mr Olympya type phisique
- PaulHoule 4y agoWhy is it a concern? Do you have a girlfriend who wants it more than you do? Would you be embarrassed talking with your guy friends about it?
- JumpinJack_Cash 4y agoI want to go back feeling like I felt when I had random raging boners and wild sexual thoughts in my brain when seeing a hot IG model or a super hot girl in the streets of Manhattan. That's 4 or 5 years ago maximum so it's too close to be a sign of aging And if I could further improve my libido even more, then also feeling such sensations for "normal" girls.
- PaulHoule 4y agoIf you want to try rewiring your brain... Can you learn to be aroused by written (not illustrated) erotica?
- JumpinJack_Cash 4y agoWell that would be the step after being able to be aroused with the visual of normal girls (which is in turn after the step of coming back being aroused by models). Meaning that is much harder to do than going back to the state I was before, wouldn' it?
- PaulHoule 4y agoMy take. In your case it is not a biological problem but rather a psychological problem. That's not a negative reflection on you, but it is not something most people want to hear. (Try telling a woman with fibromyalgia that their problems are even 1% psychological and see what you get and anything like "Look at how you've given up on life, of course your illness has caused you to become depressed" or "Look at how you've built your whole identity around being a sick person who can't be helped by anyone" or "Look at the pain that this guy suffered, he put off hip surgery for three years because he's a mutant who could be killed by general anesthesia but he kept driving a truck anyway" just doesn't get received.) My take is that you're conceptualizing the problem completely the wrong way and that the idea that you can reverse the condition along a gradient of visual stimulation is a product of that. There is more to it than visual stimulation and I think you have to find some other pathways of erotic response in yourself other than that. (e.g. there are many things that turn people on) It's hard to get help, particularly in 2023 where you can easily get 20 psychiatric referrals from your primary care physician and not find a single one who returns your phone calls and is taking new patients. It's a problem too for men that the field is terribly gender imbalanced https://www.zippia.com/psychiatric-nurse-jobs/demographics/ https://www.zippia.com/psychiatric-nurse-jobs/demographics/
- bitcurious 4y agoHave you tried lifestyle changes? Lose weight if you’re overweight, stop watching porn, do cardio, take up a combat sport if you’re up for it. Adderall has the opposite effect.
- JumpinJack_Cash 4y agoI am the exact same weight as 4 or 5 years ago when I could engage in hours long fap-thons. Exercise such as cardio make me feel extremely stupid and dumb, like an hamster on a wheel running for no real reason. Same for weight lifting except I don't know which animal does purpose-less weight lifting I reserve myself the option to try boxe because maybe the presence of an opponent to beat would give meaning to the whole enterprise which is absent in solo cardio and weight lifting > > Adderal has the opposite effect. Yes Adderal and stimulants in general make it hard to achieve an erection but my problem is libido. Meaning that I have no desire to engage in cunlingus either. If Adderal can give me back libido then I could just engage in cunlingus and take sildenafil or taladafil as needed to achieve the erection under Adderal
- cc101 4y agoI do two things. 1) For 15 years I have applied testosterone cream with a doctor's supervision. I'm 77 and need it. 2) While my sex drive is diminished by pain caused by my enlarged prostrate, there is a simple and quick exercise (recommended by my doctor) which temporarily rearranges the location of the relevant nerves. I began this exercise a few years ago, and over a few weeks it had a huge effect. Lay on your back. Draw one knee up. GENTLY! move the knee to the left and then to the right twice. Repeat for the other knee. Once in the evening and once in the morning. In my experience the initial effect was minor but noticeable. The improvement grew to be remarkable. These methods should greatly improve your satisfaction which, in turn, should improve your motivation. I am horrified that you are not under a doctor's supervision. Good luck.
