States’ Push to Protect Kids Online Could Remake the Internet
- rektide 4y agoIt's disgusting that the government is getting involved in validating identities. The worst problems on the internet are tracking & privacy, a vast network of states and corporations hoovering up & tracking every move. Rather than helping defend users, lawmakers are creating un-Democratic authoritarian regimes, that also make users less secure. Doing it for the children has been the longest saddest most bullshit government excuse forever. SOPA/PIPA and so many more. The awfulness is just unstoppable. Now we have a bunch of extremist lawmakers taking over US states, we are seeing these grossly illiberal government insertions happen at the state not National level, which is a much worse game of whack-a-mole to play.
