Enchained Symbols
- turtleyacht 4y agoWhat are some examples of enchained symbols?
- breck 4y agoAny copyrighted content.
- turtleyacht 4y agoDid the idea of enchained symbols motivate the license for Scroll? > Is Scroll public domain? > Yes! Scroll is also 100% focused on helping people build internal or _public domain sites_ and everything is designed with that assumption. As well, if each word is computable (Trubase), really no one could own the symbol, right?
- breck 4y ago> Did the idea of enchained symbols motivate the license for Scroll? Yes, my life's work is dedicated to promoting the idea that every child should be gifted with their own copy of humanity's best information. I believe we have the means, we just need the will. So I put my money where my mouth is and explicitly say everything I write is public domain. In fact, I reject the idea that there should be even a concept of a "license" over ideas. To me that is like a "license" over people. I believe in a free world. My goals with Scroll and TrueBase are to build world class products that are further examples of how public domain products are strictly superior, as many have done before me (the WWW for example). Of course, I wish I had better skills! I am always trying to get better so I can build better things. I am not happy with the state of the products yet (or my own skills), but keep trying to get better and build better. I am so grateful for many people who have contributed to the open source projects and offered words of encouragement. > As well, if each word is computable (Trubase), really no one could own the symbol, right? The core idea with TrueBase is by increasing the interconnectedness of the symbols you make it harder to lie, exponentially. To change one thing you would have to vary quite a lot. So by making it harder to vary, we could hopefully improve truth. Wikipedia makes it harder to lie about simple things—places of birth, dates, et cetera. But about more complex topics it's very easy for biased parties to control the narrative. I think there's potentially a way to build an encyclopedia that can be relied upon more on complex topics. I hope we can pull it off. I'm very confident! But by that I mean 10% odds I see it being a smashing success and 90% odds I see it failing.
