AI might instead significantly increase the quality of the lower 80th percentile of those 50,000 songs, though, which is a different thing.
In turn, that could widen the long tail of what people are interested in a lot.
- nluken 4y ago... or it will homogenize that lower 80th percentile (which needs to do something out of the ordinary to stand out) and decrease interest in it even more.
- checkyoursudo 4y agoAs AI becomes the largest producer and consumer of all new content, eventually the median song will just be 440 Hz for 2.5 minutes.
- mjr00 4y agoThere's already a ton of really, really good music in that 80th percentile, that barely ever gets heard. Some of my favorite songs ever have like 10,000 plays on Soundcloud. Lack of quality is not the reason that bottom 80th percentile doesn't get heard (or the converse: it's not the reason that most people don't listen to that bottom 80th percentile).
