- joshuaheard 3y agoAs a landlord, I require my tenants to have renter's insurance. Otherwise, they would come after me for the losses.

It may be illegal in certain cities or towns as well. That said these are exceptions; this is broadly legal in the United States. Assuming you live in the US, presumably you have ensured this practice is legal where you live.
