In NYC landlords go to great lengths to hide their identity and real estate brokers aid and abet them. It’s not uncommon to pay rent to an LLC that has only an attorney attached to it publicly, and often these entities are property-specific.
In my renting years I asked brokers who owned the building on numerous occasions and was told basically that’s private information. I knew this was bollocks but there’s not a lot most people can do.
