There's this thing called a fan that's inside your furnace. If the electricity goes out - you're gonna die of cold anyway because there's no way to move the heat from the furnace through your ductwork.
- whiddershins 4y agoI have this thing called steam heat. But duh, I am realizing that shorting the contact won’t do anything so you’re right. But I have a small solar generator and could probably make it work from that, because it requires very little electricity, as opposed to say, a heat pump.
- analog31 4y agoThat's right, the fan. And the little blower that brings the combustion air.
- bluGill 4y agoConvection will move air in my house. The safety will turn off the fan at overtemp, but it will keep the pipes from freezing. I.need to replace my 50 year old furnace, modern ones don't work that way because it isn't compatible with high efficiency.
