“propaganda ploy” is an awfully strong word for a business giving influential people a coupon. They were given to people like Lebron James and Stephen King anyway. It’s probably not as serious as the media needs to pretend it is to sell subscriptions of their own

That is an awfully sugarcoated way to describe something that was literally *forced* on select individuals without their request, knowledge or consent and without any public notice it was being done. Clearly this was done to mislead people into believing certain influential individuals had paid for a monthly subscription in hopes others would pay too. Musk complained that the prior system as an elitist “lords” and “peasants” setup. This was obviously BS. The only thing wrong before was he didn't get to hand pick the "lords"
- v0idzer0 3y agoI agree thats why they did it. Twitter verified people who didn’t request it long before Musk. I suppose you considered it misleading propaganda back then too?
- jqpabc123 3y agoPrior to Musk, verification was only by request with manual review including proof of identity. After Musk, verification is by monthly subscription fee --- unless you happen to be one of his hand picked "lords". Is this more or less trustworthy?
