Chinese hackers outnumber FBI cyber staff 50 to 1, bureau director says
- augment003 4y agoToday the GOP led congress passed a bill to cut FBI funding.
- egberts1 4y agoProbably as a slight for the political hyperweaponization by upper-echelon FBI management/directors ... and to get the White House to the table for discussion that they have refused to thus far. The rest of the rank-and-file FBI are still the most important and most reliable part of its organization.
- augment003 4y agoNone of that matters if they are choosing not to protect out country against foreign attacks. You don’t get to blame other people for dereliction of duty.
- egberts1 4y agoRecap: Political hyperweaponization of government agency is the targeting a specific party while ignoring another political party for the same degree of offenses. Oh, FBI budget will be boosted after White House comes to the discussion table.
- augment003 4y agoIt’s only the GOP who is cutting the FBI budget. > Oh, FBI budget will be boosted after White House comes to the discussion table. Is the GOP bluffing about not raising the debt ceiling?
- egberts1 4y agoWho knows ... until White House chimes in.
- augment003 4y agoIf they aren’t, then they can’t claim to be acting in the best interests of the country. It’s not better to force a default than to accept the status quo and wait until they are voted back into power.
- flangola7 4y agoHyperweaponization? What are you talking about? The White House should also definitely not kowtow to MAGA demands. "Don't negotiate with terrorists."
- egberts1 4y agosee other subthread on definition of political hyperweaponization.
- augment003 4y agoIf you are claiming that the FBI only investigates republicans for political reasons, you might want to read about Hilary Clinton’s run for the presidency in 2016.
- egberts1 4y agoThat was for the 60-day prohibition of election impacting actions. One was within the 60-day, the other was outside the 60-day.
- augment003 4y agoWhat on earth are you trying to say?
- egberts1 3y agoThere is a federal law prohibiting tampering of election cycle up to 60-day by federal employees.
- willcipriano 4y agoHow liberal of them.
- egberts1 4y agoMost of those hackers are military-hired as evidenced by their Chinese APT business address. Then again, the term Chinese military police is kinda like US FBI/DHS/ATF/CIA/NSA/most-3-letter-agencies' police all rolled into one.
- pengaru 4y agoReminds me of when the Shift Happens videos went viral and I was mentioning one of its stats to some typical American racist boomers; China has more honor students than America has students. Their response? "only because their standards for honors are lower" Le Sigh
- uberman 4y agoI would be surprised if it was not more like 500 to 1
- March_f6 4y agoI mean, presumably we have more than just the FBI to address nation states' hackers so I'm not sure what the comparison here is meant to convey. What percentage of our gigantic military budget is already allocated to address this?
- mytailorisrich 4y agoTrying to compete with China on raw manpower is like trying to compete with Walmart on price. You aren't going to win.

- simmerup 4y agoReally a threat we need to wake up to. China is playing by a different rule set to us in the West.
