Turning Signals Are Not Formalities
- MissTake 3y agoI'm convinced that many drivers over here in the US see them as a requirement to "release the steering wheel" to make left and right turns. Nothing else explains why so many drivers will sit at lights, not a signal in sight, then turn the bloody thing on at the same moment they commence the turn... What the hell's the point I that? In the UK we were taught it's called an "indicator" - and that it indicates to other drivers that the vehicle is about to make a maneuver that'll involve a lateral shift. Over here I rarely see folk use them to change lanes because I'm sure many folk don't see a lane change as a turn, thus negating the need to use the "turn signal"...
- injb 3y agoIt's just one fairly small thing on a long list of problems with how people drive in the US. Last time I checked they had about 3 times the rate of fatal accidents as the UK. There just isn't any requirement to learn how to drive over here. They hand out licenses to children like the proverbial candy bars.
