Jack Dorsey's Bluesky is like Twitter without Musk and that's good enough for me
- gigatexal 3y agoTwitter sans Elon (and with more moderation or even less spammy ads and trolls?) would be amazing.
- publius_0xf3 3y agoWe really just need a new big social network every ten years to recapture that magic of being surrounded by high-quality, tech-savvy early adaptors creating a culture that becomes the center of all discourse until network quality decays as Facebook-level boomer-brainers come flooding in and, well, there goes the neighborhood. Musk did something of a service in this regard by pandering to the only people who find his 420/69 jokes funny and antagonizing the old-guard aristocracy, causing human capital to flee what seemed like a permanent home. Thanks, I guess.
- Zigurd 3y agoWithout Catturd; Without Russia's entire propaganda team; Without putting $8 simps at the top of the page... More than good enough.
- echelon 3y agoDoes anybody have a spare invite? I've been trying to get one for a bit.
- gigatexal 3y agoSame here.
- rvz 3y ago> Bluesky Social might be the real antidote to what ails Twitter. It is too early to tell. But if there is any viable and serious 'Twitter alternative' it is BlueSky. I predict that you will see it rise once it gets rid of its invite system and has a front-facing web app. But that is half of the story. The other part is if it's able to effectively weaken Twitter's network effect by 'normal users' voluntarily and naturally switching from Twitter to BlueSky, (not techies) and continue to post and read on BlueSky and not run back to Twitter. But having normal users sign up without reading a guide or telling them how to 'choose a instance' is a great first impression. We'll see if they will learn the lessons and mistakes from Clubhouse's invite system process and Mastodon's horrific search functionality and forcing people to choose a instance, with the user signup process causing mass confusion for normal users.
