The medical establishment in the US thought it was a great idea to circumcize men for ages after the rest of the developed world abandoned the practice. They'll still happily do it for newborns if the parents request it, even though there's no medical basis, only religious. It should be no surprise the US medical establishment wouldn't want to push a vaccine for an STD.
