Possibly for majorities, but minorities often are helped by social media. Being able to connect with people who are like you, but what you are is uncommon around you, can provide lifelines to feelings of normalcy. This is especially true for LGBTQ youth in rural areas.

Perhaps the other side of this coin is part of the problem as well though? Some minority groups (e.g. incels) may not deserve to be normalized.
