You'd be surprised how common the view "Performance doesn't matter now we'll just fix the hotspot later" is
- helen___keller 3y agoAgain, that’s a straw man. All of engineering is a trade off. You trade off performance to complete the implementation faster, you keep in mind the amount of effort you are trading off in the future in the chance you are wrong and this will need to be optimized. That’s not the same as “performance doesn’t matter”. People who say “performance doesn’t matter we can optimize later” are using this as a shorthand for, time now is significantly more valuable than time in the future. For example, we must hit a deadline or must get a POC out.
