Can't read because paywall but I'll still weigh in. I have 5 kids, do pro-bono consulting for small businesses around town, help friends of friends when they need a hand, and show up to every social event I'm asked to go to even if I didn't really want to. Basically saying yes to everything, only saying no when I'm about to stretch myself to thin. Not only do I have more friends than I did in my late teens/early twenties. My close circle, the number of people I can really count on when I'm in a bind, is much larger as well. It's all about how you live your life.
