That's incredibly sad. By the time the child is old enough to be able to understand this, the damage will already be done. And even if they ever do understand, I would not blame them for feeling hurt by it. It is essential for a child's development for them to be the priority in their parent's lives. If you aren't ready to give that amount of love and care to a child, then the answer is to refrain from making one. Not to count on them understanding how meaningful and important it is for you to be doing other things. You don't increase the importance of other things by putting them before a child, you devalue the child.
