Our blog is hosted as part of our general website, and it lives in 4x servers at AWS. Did you ever consider load balancing across 2x512 instances rather than 1x1024mb server? We considered options like outsourcing the hosting of elements of the sales site, however its just part of our standard build and in reality i don't see any major issues with load balancing a WordPress blog. Your main bottle neck once your WordPress blog is under load will become your DB, but if that's your problem you're probably doing something else very right (so congrats?)
