Amazon shuts down Halo division and discontinues all devices
- salad-tycoon 3y agoI bought a halo view for $20. It was pretty okay ish, which is what I expected but all I wanted was an accurate-ish optical heart rate monitor. It was awful. The worst of any device I’ve ever had. I got a replacement and same deal. Not surprised. I only bought it because it had 765 day return policy. Guess I won’t be needing to do that.
- Mistletoe 3y agoThis makes me so mad. My girlfriend just bought this for me a few months ago. I wanted a simple heart rate monitor to wear while I run and this worked well. Never again, Amazon. Their email encouraged me to recycle it. I feel like I’m in some Terry Gilliam movie.
- netsharc 3y agoAt least they're offering a full refund? (As the last paragraph of the article states) Ah, cloud based devices, i.e. e-waste as soon as the backend is shuttered.
- Mistletoe 3y agoThe email failed to mention the refund part, which I find completely dastardly on Amazon's part. Someone did the math on those "purchased in the last 12 months" refunds and then included it in the blog post but left it out of the email on purpose. The email is almost verbatim taken from the blog post except that product refund part. I really doubt most people will find the blog post and will just see the email and give up and I guess recycle their perfectly functioning sunsetted item.
- rektide 3y agoRight to repair should be applied & should mandate they open the devices so others can maintain & repair them & translate them to alternative back end services.
