FSD monitors the driver for indicators of inattention, e.g. not looking at the road. First you get a visual alert, then a shrill alarm, and if you're still not paying attention the vehicle slows to a stop. Drivers with a history of inattention are locked out of FSD.
Contrast with traditional cruise control where you can fall asleep at the wheel going 100mph and it'll hold that speed until you crash. Of course no one wrings their hands about that.
- kaba0 3y agoPeople suck at context switching. Even if the driver is looking at the road, they can’t suddenly be put in the context and expect to do well.
