I was laid off from two jobs. One was right in the middle of the GFC, and the company did very right by me. They were awesome, and I remained friends with the managers left behind. This didn't affect how I felt about future jobs.
The second job was a "lay off" by surprise. A new manager came in and a pile of staff were let go. I was blind sided, and it's really screwed me up. Even now, years later if I have a meeting with a manager, I'm nervous. I don't ever get emotionally involved in work. I don't care as much about their "WHY". I cover my butt.
To be honest, I don't know that I'll ever recover from the last one. My only hope is to become a freelance, or my own boss. At least being let go then doesn't hurt.
