Google’s search business is feeling the heat
- bjoli 3y agoI have a feeling something has happened to search. Previously I didn't have to bookmark stuff. I could just search for whatever I wanted to find. Since a couple of years that is no longer true. I can't find basic information related to my home city because including the name of the city seems to do nothing. Nor am I showed any relevant text to my search in the little text blurb under every link. Search used to be like a desktop search tool where you can find any file if you know what to search for. Not it is like I can't even search for things in the documents folder. And it is not like every other search engine becoming much better. I have a feeling Google just got worse.
- Ekaros 3y agoI have long felt that searches try to be too smart. They ignore terms, to focus on something else. Or use context like location, sometimes useful. Sometimes very bad. And then there is the fuzzy ways. Like trying to fix my spellings when I try to use exact word, looking at you Confluence... I wish we had some simple or stupid mode. Just give me all pages with these exact words, maybe with some refinement like NEAR and NOT. But those times are gone...
- taskforcegemini 3y agoit feels like google (the search engine) died and got replaced with something more generic. it is working less and less for me. maybe they cut off some things to reduce costs. yet bing is still worse.
