We need some things: 1) laws that enshrine the right of owners/users to circumvent bullshit like this (a right to digital self defense) and that prevent corporations from making it unreasonably difficult to do so. 2) a healthy community of hackers building the kind of contraception we need to protect ourselves from bullshit like this. I don't know what that is when it comes to an SoC, but we need it. We can't rely on the companies not to do these thing (in fact you can set your watch by it), so we should just focus on protecting the right to route around it.
