Russian Troops Figured Out How to Make Themselves Invisible
- miohtama 3y agoThere is a chapter on Finnish army field manual how to avoid detection from infrared cameras. Page 111 forward. https://puolustusvoimat.fi/documents/1948673/2258487/PEVIESTOS-talvikoulutusopas.pdf/cce41141-5aa8-49a7-8de6-6337a34b8cdc/PEVIESTOS-talvikoulutusopas.pdf.pdf https://puolustusvoimat.fi/documents/1948673/2258487/PEVIEST... For larger targets, like vehicles and camping sites, you can also set up dummies. E.g. empty heated tents, black trash bags and such that may lit up as targets and misguide the fire.
- livueta 3y agoOne interesting thing about this is that standoff from direct body heat matters. A layer of space blanket in a jacket is an improvement over nothing but not particularly effective. Purpose-made material like https://fibrotexusa.com/ulcans/ https://fibrotexusa.com/ulcans/ works better but the standoff effect is still noticeable. The implication of this is that it's easy to conceal a fixed position from thermal sensors, but a lot harder to conceal a person on the move. If that fixed position itself has thermals, it can cause big problems for attackers.
