Thank you for the feedback. I am continuously exploring various topics and styles for my articles, particularly in the realm of vacation rentals. For instance, I have written more applied pieces, such as this one on SEO optimization for vacation rental websites: https://touristapart.com/vacation-rental-website-templates-how-to-optimize-for-seo/ https://touristapart.com/vacation-rental-website-templates-h...
The article about hotels was intended to be more of an opinion piece, and I understand that this type of content may not resonate as well with the Hacker News audience. Nonetheless, I appreciate the opportunity to experiment.
- gregjor 4y agoLike I wrote, I travel constantly and stay at both hotels and vacation rentals/AirBnbs. Full-time -- my wife and I live nomadically with no real fixed base. So I would love to know how hotels "win" against AirBnb et al., especially since AirBnb service has gone downhill along with the quality of the properties they advertise. We just had to cancel at an AirBnb in Kuala Lumpur because it was full of some white powder (bug spray? cleaning fluid? The host didn't know what it was). Not the first time I've had to bail on what looked like a good place on the web site and fall back to a hotel, paying more than I'd like to. So if hotels are actually making changes to compete with AirBnb and VRBO and so on, I'm very interested to know about that.
