China might crush the West in the race to AGI if we don’t up our regulatory

- ftxbro 4y agoIf you have been following the AI drama this is actually hilarious. This argument by Gary Marcus is that China's strict censorship policies might force China away from the more creative LLM class of AIs and towards Marcus's pet 'neurosymbolic' theory of AI, and that this might cause the USA to lose the AI race when his pet theory is finally proved to be superior to LLMs. To prevent this eventuality, the USA can counter China by implementing its own draconian censorship policies, giving the USA a chance to develop neurosymbolic AI first (because it supposedly makes censorship easier) and ultimately win the AI race (because it is supposedly more effective in other ways that we will discover)! In this way censorship doesn't hamper innovation, but rather drives innovation!
