If you were to watch battlefield footage from Ukrainian POV, you would often hear Ukrainian soldiers speaking in Russian with each other. Yeah, good luck with shedding 'language of the oppressor'.
- lisasays 3y agoThen again if you were form your views based on something more than a few random videos you happen to have caught -- you just might come to a different impression. It is of course widely known that many people in Ukraine still speak Russian day-to-day and that, despite the war -- this is still largely NBD ("no big deal", per English slang). However anecdotal RL observation (plus numerous other news accounts, and the popularity of Ukrainian-for-Russsian-speakers classes, etc) do support the basic claim the article is making.

My native is Russian and I have been watching battle field videos on daily basis since the first day of the conflict. I draw my empirical conclusions based on what I see & hear and based on own conversations with my relatives in Ukraine (my mother is from Odessa region).
