I highly double that Chinese ambassador said that comment on his own, without having a green light from a party. What left me wondering is why it was said this in this trying time, when China is trying to be a negotiator in Ukrainian-Russian conflict and starting to flex its international muscle ?
This seriously damages China reputation as a negotiator in Urk-Rus conflict.
From what I have been reading in the past, China has strained relationship with Baltic states, that are most freaked out by Russia on their borders.
- DiogenesKynikos 3y agoThere is zero chance that he had a green light from the Party for these statements. These statements not only contradict basically every tenet of Chinese foreign policy, but also were certain to cause outrage in Europe. There was absolutely nothing to be gained from the ambassador's statements. If you watch the original video, the ambassador looks flustered. He makes the statement about sovereignty in the heat of the moment, while trying to defend his position. It does not look like a carefully prepared statement that he came in planning to make.
