I suspect Europe’s economy would be larger if it had more real kings and queens. Its share of global output peaked under that system. On the other hand their democracy feels strained and exhausted, which is not helped by the contingent being a US protectorate. Frankly, I’m not sure why people ignore Aristotle’s idea that the monarch is the people’s best defense against aristocracy/oligarchy.
