Yes same happened to me. After about 3 years I went back to a gas car. After the vanity / hobby enthusiasm diminishes, charging and the current limitations become just very frustrating to deal with every day. To be fair I made the frustrating experience mostly in non-Tesla cars. However, Tesla has other things that can be frustrating.
- degrees57 3y agoI'm quite happy with my PHEV. I charge at night at home, and have even gone a whole month without needing to get gasoline (in town driving only). But when I need to drive a long distance, it's a complete non-issue to find a gas station after 550 miles.
- QuarterReptile 3y ago>have even gone a whole month without needing to get gasoline Every time I consider getting a plug-in hybrid, I'm reminded that they're not for me. Even with daily commuting, I only fill my 12gal tank 10 times annually. I've put, at most, $8000 of gas into my car in the last decade. I want the geeky toy, but it's just not sensible. If I want to make 50mpg instead of 35, I just have to drive carefully and draft behind trucks.
- barbazoo 3y agoIt's hard to do but I'd love to see some kind of calculator that takes that all into account to figure out one's co2 emission.
- barbazoo 3y agoI know many people with lifestyles that would totally fit the charge-at-home approach which eliminates almost all of the problems. But that means real estate has to be cheaper so you can afford the "driveway". And you need a car sharing culture to deal with road trips, etc. where you need a longer range that one time a year. Again, talking about a good chunk of people, not necessarily yourself.

We had EVs (two) from 2014 to 2020, it had benefits at the time (HOV access) but it's also a pain to be planning your day around time/distance/charger-access logistics all the time every day. With the pandemic ending commutes, that wiped out the HOV benefit and it all just doesn't seem worth the hassle anymore. We let the lease expire, no EVs in the household now. Maybe in the future again. For now only ICE cars here and driving life is so much easier. No more waking up at 2am realizing didn't plug in and going out to the freezing driveway to fix that. No more telling the boss I won't be in until the afternoon because I forgot to plug the car in. No more having to stay in the office until 9pm because I couldn't get a charger spot until 5pm. Now I just get in the car and drive whenever I like. Tank is low? I stop by a gas station, buy some chips and by the time I walk out the tank is full and I'm good to go another 400 miles.
